  1. Book ahead or take one at the border

The gap between a driver waiting for you and the taxi stand can be tens of dollars.

    • Tip

Ask your camp for a driver

Most camps work with regular drivers and will send you a WhatsApp number. Agree the price in advance and the driver waits for you on the Egyptian side.

    • Heads up

The taxi stand at the crossing

The taxis waiting outside the terminal charge fixed prices you can't haggle over, and travellers and agents say they can reach double the pre-booked price. Shared minibuses only leave when they're full, which can take an hour or more.

    • Money

      Dollars in cash

Drivers quote in dollars and expect US dollars in cash. There's nowhere to buy dollars on the Egyptian side, so bring small, whole, clean notes from home.

    • Tip

      Share a ride

A large taxi takes up to 10 people, so it's worth finding others heading to the same area. For a group of 4–6 with lots of gear, two small taxis can work better.

  2. Ras Abu Galum, Sharm and Cairo

Not every destination has a set price, and a regular taxi can't reach some of them at all.

    • Info

Ras Abu Galum and the Blue Lagoon

No road runs to the beach. You arrive by 4x4, by boat, or on foot along the coast from Dahab's Blue Hole, and we found no current price we trust. Ask your camp to arrange the whole trip.

    • Money

      Sharm el-Sheikh airport

Travellers report about $100 per car from Taba to Sharm airport (April 2026). On unusual days, such as during a war, much higher prices have been reported.

    • Info

      To Cairo

A private taxi to Cairo costs $150–350 for up to 4 people and about $500 for up to 10. There's also a shared bus at the South Sinai governorate's official fare, about 340 Egyptian pounds per person. Cairo needs a full visa – the Sinai-only stamp isn't enough.
